Datacenters are essentially the pillars of the virtual world such as the local area network, internet etc. A datacenter also provides backup power supply in case of power failures. Consider a datacenter to be like a library for all the computers of the world where they go to access information and process it. Without a datacenter computers cannot access any information that is not stored within them. The importance of a datacenter in the corporate world has increased because of computerisation. Two or three decades earlier, data was stored in company archives. All details regarding the company were stored in files that were kept in a large room. A datacenter is a digital analogy of the same.
Companies use certain programs to process data. This data is accessible from all computers in the company office. Employees constantly access this data and modify or alter it. Say for example data regarding sales transactions. Every hour, a company conducts certain transactions. These transactions need to be recorded. A data analyst feeds in this information into a computer. A datacenter makes this data available on all other assigned computers and makes relevant changes in other data as stated in the program.
