Laptop Tray

If you own a laptop, the chances are you literally use it on your lap the majority of the time. It is far more convenient to do so, and a laptop tray can make it even more so.

TV Tray Style Laptop Tray

There are several types of laptop tray available. Some are designed to be more like those old-fashioned TV trays that became so popular in the 1950s. They are a small rectangular table with short legs that fold out. The idea is that the legs are just long enough for you to be able to open the table up over your legs.

These kinds of TV trays are OK, but some people find that to use them they have to have their laptop closer to them than they would normally like. This means that their arms are more bent when typing and the screen is a little too close to their eyes to be read comfortably. The other problem is that people with big thighs cannot use them comfortably; the tray legs are too short to make contact with the chair, so they end up balancing the tray on their legs. This does not provide a stable enough environment to type comfortably.

The Beanie Laptop Tray

Because of these problems, someone came up with a great solution. They attached a large beanie bag to the base of a tray. It sounds odd, but it works really well. You place the tray with your laptop on your lap and the bag moulds itself to the shape of your legs. You can place the tray further back on your legs than you can a TV tray.

Laptop trays are not to be confused with ordinary lap trays, which are designed to allow you to eat dinner in front of the TV. These trays are designed to allow you to use a mouse with your laptop, so have extra space to allow you to do so. Some of the more gimmicky ones come with built in fans and lights. However, by far the best and most comfortable ones to use are the basic tray with a beanbag base.
