Who can provide FGASA recognised Game Ranger courses?

Based in the stunning Grietjie Nature Reserve (itself based in the larger Balule Nature Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger National Park), Antares Field Guide Training Centre has seen over two hundred students pass through its doors since it opened in 2000. Antares runs FGASA accredited level one Game Ranger courses, taught by the owners Ian and Mel Owtram. Ian has been passionate about wildlife since he was a boy, working and studying in both Africa and England. His qualifications include Zoo Animal Management and Special Knowledge and Skills – Dangerous Animals. Mel’s passion is for the schools’ programme that Antares has developed.

What do the Antares Game Ranger courses consist of?

Antares’ Game Ranger courses consist of a FGASA approved syllabus. The course itself is residential, lasts for eighty eight days and consists of periods of self study as well as led activities. The subjects studied include all the local flora and fauna, as well as looking at geology, astronomy and a host of other subjects.
