Effective contractor management during tough economic times

There is no denying the economic problems facing many countries around the world at present, including the UK. Indeed, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) recently revealed that Britain slid back into a recession during the first quarter of this year. It was the second three-month period in which negative growth was recorded.

From January to March, there was a fall in gross domestic product of 0.2 per cent. This meant the UK fell into a so-called ‘double-dip’ recession.

Given the difficult trading conditions, it is more important than ever for companies to control their spending effectively. With this in mind, many bosses may be keen to investigate the potential of contractor management software, online health and safety training and so on. Utilising web-based systems like these to uphold safety standards and comply with the law can help organisations to operate more efficiently.

Meanwhile, responding to the ONS figures, the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) said they were “disappointing”.

However, chief economist at the BCC David Kern suggested that the situation may in fact be less desperate than the official statistics suggest. He said: “Business surveys, including the BCC’s Quarterly Economic Survey, have shown a more positive picture, and we believe these give a more accurate indication of the underlying trends in the economy.”

The expert did go on to concede that economic growth in Britain remains “much too low” and he called on the government to bolster business growth. He added: “That means reducing regulation, encouraging exports and improving infrastructure.”

By being proactive and taking advantage of contractor management software, online health and safety training and other such measures, firms may be able to ensure they are better placed to weather the ongoing economic storm and to flourish in the long-term. Thankfully, it is now easier than ever for organisations to benefit from assistance of this kind.
