Sweet Shops Make a Comeback

Many towns and even cities are seeing major businesses closing down with alarming regularity. And yet, from the embers of some of these fallen giants has come something far more humble and, in many instances, far more appealing – sweet shops.

Whilst convenience stores and supermarkets once put the final nail in the coffin of independent sweet shops, even the smallest towns are now seeing multiple sweet shops return. So why is it that we seem to now favour the independent retailers of good quality, old fashioned sweets?

There are many reasons for the resurgence, and our love for anything retro and our disillusionment with major commercial outlets are at the top of the list. It is now easier than ever for small outfits to buy bulk sweets online and in turn get access to retro candy that many people haven’t seen for years. Buying bulk sweets means that these sweet shops can offer all our old favourites at low prices, and being taken back to our childhoods by the sweets we used to eat is extremely appealing, now more than ever.

The layout of the traditional sweet shop is also appealing, being a far more appealing way to buy the sweets you want than by putting more money into major companies whilst actually being offered far less choice.

Therefore, if your town still hasn’t got a sweet shop, there is a good chance that there is one on the horizon. If you are looking to start a small business, you may be surprised just how lucrative buying and selling wholesale sweets can be. Our love of anything old and anything that will remind us of childhood is likely to show that wholesale sweets and the shops they are found in are likely to now have far more longevity than many other businesses on the high street.
