Business

Who Are Nexus?

Nexus is a specialist telecommunications firm that operates out of the Hull area. They were established to offer the businesses of Hull an alternative to the only other telecoms operator in the area, Kingston Communication (KC).

Hull is a unique city, from a telecommunications point of view. For decades, the licence to provide telephone services to the city was held by just one company. The terms of that licence effectively gave this firm a monopoly. Meaning that if you lived and worked in Hull and needed telecommunications you had pretty much only one option and that was to use this firm, which is now known as KC. BT never offered a service in the city.

The History of Nexus

Over the years, a few firms tried to set up an alternative service, but they all failed. The cost of infrastructure in relation to the size of the potential customer base was just too high. Hull has only 190,000 homes.

Nexus succeeded where many others had failed and came to an agreement with KC. This agreement enabled them to use some of KC’s existing infrastructure to offer an alternative telecommunications package.

Having a choice went down well in Hull and Nexus was quickly successful. In 2009, Nexus was able to offer mainline services and in 2011 added broadband services to the services that they offered.

The Future for Nexus

Nexus already offer clients a full suite of telecommunications service including, mobile service, non geographic numbering, fax2Email, data services, broadband services, leased lines, internet leased lines, point to point leased lines (private circuit), call divert and call routing.

The future of Nexus looks bright they already offer a huge range of services and aim to continue to expand the range of services they offer. The fact that KC invested so much in infrastructure is of benefit to Nexus and the people of Hull, because the network is up to date and capable of supporting an array of new services as and when they are developed. The company is actively working with its existing customers to identify new product ideas and develop them.
